sprite-tsc  About the Thames Salsa Cruise

Treat yourself to a perfect Sunday evening enjoying salsa as we cruise the great river Thames.
Since 1998 The Thames Salsa Cruise has danced along the river.
It’s fun, quirky, relaxed with a maybe a little frisson as you meet new friends. You’ll be dancing, sightseeing, chilling, chatting and laughing all the way.
The atmosphere buzzy like a salsa house party where everyone’s mixing and mingling.
A fresh new salsa experience for some, and a much loved regular event for many.
You’ll remember the Thames Salsa Cruise for ever.

Leaving Festival Pier on London’s South Bank, we cruise for four hours, up to the Houses of Parliament then down river towards the O2 Dome and the Thames Barrier. So many things to see so being a camera.
We’ll be back in time to get home ready for an early start the next day.
The dance deck awaits with DJ Felicidad playing a cocktail of classic salsa with a dash of your favourite other genres.
The cruises tend to sell out so please book early!

Here's my recent review of a Ta-Ko at Victory Mansions- Stoke Newington

TA-KO at Victory Mansions could be just another restaurant bar amongst the plethora strewn along Stoke Newington High Street. But I was intrigued by the name as Victory Mansions was the run-down apartment block where Winston Smith lived in George Orwell‘s book, 1984. I couldn’t wait to see how that fit with Ta-Ko. I mean, Mexican street food in a 1950s tenement building?

The last two weeks I’ve been gradually integrating the new Blend Format at Camden.
It’s a new way of operating an early week evening that literally ‘blends’ the party and the classes creating an atmosphere of buzz. Fantastic to participate, engaging to watch.
It’s taken a long time to create and I’ve waited until we’re back in Gabeto (formerly The Cuban)
So what’s Blend Format all about?
Within an evening of two and a half hours e.g. 7.30pm - 10pm there’s 105 minutes of tuition fulfilling the needs of beginners through to advanced. This is presented in 15 or 30 minute sessions, Whole group active interspaced with Free Dance time.
There’s constant music and a buzzy mixing and mingling as groups come and go.
Come for the evening, stay for the evening, dance for the evening, socialise for the evening.

Why?
The world has changed!
Our classes are aimed at intelligent career minded people who want to wake up fresh the next day. More and more people respect the ‘not on a school night’ lifestyle. Blend means that dancers don’t have to sacrifice their free dance after the classes for an early finish, as there’s a significant amount of free dance opportunity during the evening.

I’ve spent over twenty years developing salsa teaching so people can learn quicker and better, so Blend has to offer real advantages for tuition.
The free dance sections allow techniques to be discussed, digested and practiced before another load of info arrives. After the free dance you’ll return to the session refreshed in mind and body :-) Finally, Spoiler Alert, the best way to learn salsa is to dance salsa! Freestyle salsa is where you find out if you know something or not.

There’s no doubt that Blend is a long way from the traditional evening class format but I think you’ll find it a rewarding learning experience, more fun and more social.
Whenever people try something new there’s always a little resistance between the familiar and unfamiliar. I know I’ve got form. The 1-Day Intensive courses that seems a familiar part of the salsa scene was once unthinkable. Until I did in 2003.
Enjoy Blend and please let me know what you think :-) Alastair
We're Back!!!
After months in the wilderness of Camden Market we're back at the venue formerly known as The Cuban and now called Gabeto. It's a new clean shiny bar in the same building and the decor's more London and less Havana.

Join Moe, DeLarry and Me for a bunch of classes and fun

Some of the classes will be in Gabeto bar and some in Gabeto Studio AKA Alchemy but come to the bar first.

NEW START TIME OF 7.30pm we will be starting on time with or without you so please check in early.

New Pricing: £10 per evening. We'll be introducing a Cafe Nero style loyalty card.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support over this summer and welcome everyone back to get this night buzzing.
Professional lifestyle blogger Lela London came on the Salsa Rapido 1-Day Intensive and blogged about it.
Read her report:
